Piano Appraisal

Picture
Pianos are valuable items and some that have been passed down from generation to generation within a family hold sentimental value to the owners. The sentimental value cannot be equated to a monetary value.

Knowing how much a piano is worth needs careful assessment and involves physical inspection of the piano's parts. A piano appraisal is a valuation done by an expert to give the true value of the piano.

Many factors affect the value of a piano. These include:

  • The age of the piano
  • The materials used to make the piano
  • The name of the manufacturer
  • The type of the piano is being valued
  • Wear and tear
  • Depreciation laws and regulations
  • Recent and past restoration done on the piano
  • Rarity and scarcity of the piano
Piano Appraisal services at Piano Tuner are offered on site and never over the phone or email. A qualified piano inspector must inspect the body of the piano and test out various parts to know the true value. Pianos that have properly been cared for are more valuable than those that have just been sitting in storage for ages.

Any parts that have been replaced recently or in the past must be noted down and the reason for replacement indicated where applicable.

The person requesting for appraisal of the piano should be the true owner of the piano, or have been sent to represent the owner.

Knowing the history of the piano in question, such as if it has survived natural calamities like floods, helps the appraiser to reach a more accurate valuation. Servicing, tuning, and regulation history should also be given to the appraiser if possible.

Piano appraisal services come in handy when the piano is on sale. Insurers will also require the piano to be appraised before settling on any insurance agreement. This helps them to assess the value that should be compensated to the owner upon maturity of an insurance claim.
